Alvaro de La Peña

ALVARO DE LA PEÑA  MUNOA.
(Donosti 1955)



In the 1976 he moves in Barcelona where he studies interpretation and contemporary and classical dance in the “Institut del teatre”(Theatre’s Institute ) of Barcelona.
Some of his teachers have been José Lainez and Gilberto Ruiz-lanz, with whom he carried out several spectacles.
He makes improvement’s courses in France, Germany and Holland.
He studies and collaborates with Albert Vidal and participates in his short-films like: “La Boda” (The wedding), “ El sopar” (The dinner) and “El consumidor” (The consumer).
As a student, he begins to create his first pieces like “Entorno a Romeo y Julieta” (Around Romeo and Juliet). “Calamarsa” and “Del Roig al blau” (From Red to Blue), an Opera with booklet of Joan Oliver, for the “Teatre Grec” (the Greek’s Theatre) of Barcelona. He has maintained a constant training formation and recycle’ activity.
During one season he dances with the “Ballet contemporani” (Contemporary Ballet) of Barcelona, later he incorporates in the contemporary dance company “Heura” (together with Angels Margarit, Alicia Perez Cabrero etc). With this company he obtains many prizes in international competitions like Bagnotlet (París), Nyon (Switzerland), Colonia (Germany).
He works with the “Folk Tanz Studio”, ballet-school created by Pina Bausch and directed by Susan Lynke (Essen Werden, Germany).
During three seasons he dances as soloist in the “Gran Teatre del Liceu” of Barcelona. He act in many theatrical shows like “La historia de un caballo” (History of an horse), (interpreted by J Mª Rodero), “La bella y la bestia”(The Beautiful and the Beast) (in the version of Iago Pericot)
He dances in the work of Gilberto Ruiz-lanz, “Dido y Eneas” during the festival “Teatre Obert” (Open Theatre).
He works with Avelina Argüelles and after goes in tour in the South America with the company Nat-Nus.
Since 1987 to 1991 he participates as dancer and choreographer in the project of the company “Dart” (together with Guillermina Coll), making pieces like “Loa- Loa” (with which he wins the first prize of the choreography’s competition “Ricard Moragas”.

He participates, together with Juan Carlos García and Claudio Zulián of the company “Lanónima Imperial”, to the show “E pour si mueve” and “Castor i Pólux”, going in tour and participating in some international festivals.
In the 1993, he creates his dance company: ILIACAN (www. iliacan.com), Since that time, he works and makes more than twenty shows of median and great format.
Some of these: “Ya no sabría volver”, “Oanes”, “Tirana bohemia”, “Green dog or the soul’s labyrinth”, “Elvira dorado”, “Don Juan”, “Donde Habito” y “Escribo en el viento”.
He has directed classes and workshops in a lot of study’s centre in Catalunya and in cities like: Santiago de Compostela, Madrid, Cadiz, Sibiu (Rumania), Dro (Italy)…
Since 1990 to 2002, he works as dancing master in the “Institut del Teatre” of Barcelona (in the higher dancing school). For this school he makes numerous movements’ workshops.
He also continues his activity as choreographer in the theatre, television and Opera.

Alvaro is president and founder of “La Caldera”, a cultural association with the aim to develop the choreographic activities.
This society is a site of four floors, in the Gracias’ district, and there, eight dance company have their place and create their production.
This society also realizes lots of activities and makes many classes and workshops. Recently has been rewarded with the ”National Dance Prize” of the municipality of Catalunya.
Today Alvaro is the head of the company’s project in the town of Tremp (Lleida) in the scheme of artistic residence sponsored by the municipality of Catalunya, with the aim of artistic pedagogy, art circulation and new audience investigation.

“Freixenet”. Spot of Feixene, by Leopoldo Pomés (Review T.P Award.) with Maribel Verdún and Alejandro Sanz.

“SEAT”. Choreography “Límites” for the presentation of the car of the yar in the march Palace of Palma de Mallorca.
